Google Play Store stop working? Here's how to fix it

It can be annoying when you get the "unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" message on your Android phone  ,especially when you want to download an important app from Google play store. 
When this occurs, it prevents you from downloading or updating existing apps, unless you want to start downloading from other source , you can easily resolve the issue by following the guide in this post. 


Clear Google Play Store cache or Data 


Whenever any app force close often or give the unfortunately app has stop working message, the first thing you would want to try in other to resolve the issue is clearing the app cache, you can do this by going to the device settings, which you can locate in the phone menu or by simply dragging down the notification panel and click on the settings icon at the top. 



scroll down to the device category and click on apps, this will open the menu where you can control all the apps install on your phone, for lollipop and older version, simply swipe over to All option ,while device running on marshmallow should scroll down to locate the Google Play Store app from the list of apps.

Click on it , there will be list of options like force stop ,disable and possibly uninstall updates, if you've updated it before. 


Click on the  "force stop" option, to stop the app from running at the background and tap the "OK" option to acknowledge the warning sign.

The next step to take is different in some operating system version,for lollipop and older version, simply scroll down to "clear cache" and "tap" on it, while on Android marshmallow , click on the storage option and select clear cache.
This will erase all the cache data of Google Play Store.



After the above step, try to open the app to see if the problem have been resolve, and if the it persist, then clearing the app data will be the next option.
In other to clear the Google Play Store data, follow the same procedure above but select the "clear data" instead of "clear cache" ,note that performing this option will delete all login details and will make you start the app afresh, though any purchase app will still be available. 


Install the latest version of Google Play Store app. 


While the above step will work, in some cases it might not resolve the issue ,the next step to take is installing the latest version of Google Play Store. 

First of all you need to locate the allow installation of “Unknown Sources" on your Android phone by simply opening the settings menu, scroll to personal category and select security.

Scroll to device administration category and tick the "unknown source" option, this will pop out a warning sign, click on "Ok" to proceed. 
By doing this, you will be able to download and install apps outside the Google Play Store market on your Android phone. 

After that, head to your preferred phone browser and type www.apkmirror.com in the address bar, type Google Play Store in the search box - This will bring all the available version of Google Play Store, the first option should be the latest version. 

Download the apk and install on your Android phone, open the Google Play Store app and fill in the necessary information to start using it.
